General Conference weekend!
Yay it's general conference! What a great time, very spiritual. I must say though, why is the LDS church seriously the only one that has broadcasted their annual and semi-annual conferences? Hmm.... maybe something living in Utah has something to do with it. What I mean is.... Since Utah is basically Mormonville, you don't really hear anything else about other religions brodacasting. I am sure they do it, but the other huge church I know of is Catholic, and the Pope and the basis is in Europe, so that might have something to do with it also. Also, the LDS church is the fastest growing religion, and I think the richest church as well, and at least not in debt at all. Because of that, I think the Church is able to broadcast it, not only in our country, but around the entire world! So ya, that's about all I have to say. I'm not saying that my religion is better if any one is offended, because I have the highest respect for any other religion as well.:)

Wii! (Be careful, you get sore muscles from being competitive!)
I love this new video game! It's pretty awesome, no wonder people love it so much! But I've always wondered why the creators or whatever, made up this fantastic object? The first obvious thing that came to mind was profit. First week it sold they made millions! I'd be surprised if they haven't reached a billion yet. Even though video games have been around for a long time, making a new sleek design and different way to play virtual would be awesome! It's like a similator or something rather. The other thing that came to mind of why they had made this was, well, our society. Since most of America's population is overweight (I feel bad saying that but statistics have proven it), and I'm sure a good deal of it may be becasue people are being couch potatoes and playing video games all day. So, why not make a video game that gets you up and moving? Burn off some calories yay! haha. But seriously, since Wii is not your typical video game, the whole point of it is too pretty much get up and moving, otherwise, there is no point!

March Madness
I really dislike basketball, mainly because of experience, but seriously, I find no joy in it. But that is my personal opinion. But why in the world do we have March Madness? First of all, It is in the middle of the two most advertised and way exciting seasons. Football, over with, and baseball, hasn't even begun. People get bored because it is the worst time for sports. So, for entertainment, you have to have something worth while and exhilirating, like playoffs or something. Here in high school, there's nothing going on, so I guess it's something for guys to look forward to. Here at MV, there are no date dances to be excited about, and it's third term, the worst of all four! So during rest and relaxation, its gametime. It is something entertaining and to get the mind off of homework for a while and settle down. However there is one catch. This is why girls don't like guys in March, cuz they are too busy being glued to the TV!

daylight savings
okay, so daylight savings isn't new, but why on earth did they have to change the time we now do it? Originally, daylight savings was put into action during one of the world wars, to save energy. So, I guess we are trying to save even more energy than before, even though we were doing pretty well beforehand anyway. But does three weeks earlier really make a difference? I think not, that's three more weeks lost of precious sleep! Plus, I don't see why we should just choose a time and keep it. It would be alot easier to remember and people wouldn't have such a hard time remembering and sleeping in too late. But oh well, I guess it'll just stay this way until the government decides to change it again.

i want spring
Okay, so i think for the months of november through january, sometimes february, it's okay to snow. But March? No way! It's fripping the month when spring starts when it finally gets warm!! Why does it have to snow during the spring months?! I know it's not my place to ask of something that I can't control, but really, when march comes around, it's when you focus on the heat. New clothes, flip flops, and buy some new beach gear that's on sale. Plus, it's vacation planning time! If it's snowing, then nobody's going to want to plan it because people think that since it's snowing, it's too far away. Ya, dumb. Also, March is when the last school term starts, and everyone is focused on finals, AP tests, the AcT etc. It's a routine, when it gets warm, that must mean the end of school is coming, which equals hard tests that you start studying for 2 months in advance. If it is still snowing, people think that it still must be awile. It's just something that is assumed, since cold=snow. So pretty much is that snow=cold, which means no time to study and people start later on fun summer activities, because it's just what is assumed. This might not make sense to you, but it certainly does to me. ;)

darn gas prices!
Ok so maybe this title doesn't have anything to do with my blog, i am just a little upset. Acutally, this blog entry is sadly about math. AGGh. Terrible i know. Ya why in the world do we use the dreaded numbers of doom?!? Seriously, math is basically working hard one year, and the next learning there was an easier way to do it. However, I've realized that we actually can't get by one day without using math. Without it, how would our economy and the world go on? Their statistics, numbers etc etc that we use in school and in the real world. O wow that is a lot of numbers. So I guess even though math is a terrible thing, and hardly anyone (that I know of) can understand the concepts taught, it helps us live comfortably! Like I guess for example, knowing how much gas prices went up (grr), that's math cuz you gotta do the addition, or knowing how much you have left in your savings account after you bought an awesome hot pink nano (hehe) thats math too! So it evolves around us and we evolve around it. Sad, but true.

analyzing on analyzing
Why do we analyze? I don't know. Usually it's because english teachers tell us to, or else we get a D-. Yet I've realized that isn't always for homework. My friends and I always anaylze like, a movie or an event that we've gone to. Everyone has their different opinions from what they watched and analyzed from the activity, and sometimes it is really interesting to see what they think. (and sometimes it's not, like when you know what they analyzed is right and they rub it in your face) Analyzing is just what the normal person does, and it is to everything and anything. But that is okay. Becuase it's cool to see the relationship and differences in what you have analyzed and what others have to form a complete synthesis.

MUN! (USA Delegation Rocks!)

I enjoy doing MUN, because of the people I'm with, and usually my topics are interesting, and I feel that I do better each time a new conference comes up. Why did they decide to create MUN? In some conferences, like RSHMUN, it involves a lot of western states, like Cali, Nevada, Oregon, Washington etc. Meeting new people and socializing was a good experience, because in some cases you start new friendships and you become aware of what else is going on around you by what the other teenagers views are about. MUN also helps one develop a knowledge of what is going on around them internationally. Personally, I would've never of understood some international events or issues if I hadn't gone to MUN and gotten some background. It helps one become aware of real issues and able to create possible solutions. So, to summarize, MUN helps one understand the world around them, gain social skills, and become able to think and create solutions that may be able to be used in the future in their own lives!

I heart shopping
So pretty much every girl that I know loves shopping for new clothes, including myself, a total shopping spree-every-weekend-kinda person. So lately when I go shopping, and what I've watched in my financial literacy class, people shop for clothes depending on the brand name. Why does this happen? Personally, the new trends are a big factor in this. Teens at school have the most, uh... interesting fashions that seem to get either wierder or cuter every week. Keeping in these trends that come and go are usually bought from popular stores, like idk, aero, abercrombie and fitch, american eagle, and so on. Since these stores are widely known, and everyone sees there brands, the trends at school are also "popular" that come from these stores. There's also a thing going on that the trends are getting more expensive. If the clothes are getting more expensive, than people, to be part of the trend, will start spending more money. At the same time, the same shirt at like Walmart or Target may be less expensive, but since the "popular" stores are getting the money, it'll keep continuing. It's competitive consumption! Just to be part of the trends at school or just in society all together and buying by brand name is, well, not really needed.

Da Iron Giant!
K so this movie is like, one of my childhood favorites! My little sister decided to watch it, so I watched it with her to explain everything, and I was reminded of how much I enjoyed it! So why do some movies, like this one, totally stick with you forever? Well, some of it could be because of why, when, and what you were doing while you were watching it. This one we always use to rent on New Year's Eve and stay up watching it continuously. It was our way of staying awake and getting the adrenaline up. Plus, one of my sisters was always afraid of this one part, so she never watched it and we always made fun of her. Mean I know, but teasing each other about that was just another event that happened while watching it. So now everytime I watch that I'll think about staying up with my family and getting hyper because of how tired i was. So memories of watching a movie that sticks with you keeps you loving the movie, and showing it to others and having them love it too!

Flowers..chocolates...promises you don't intend to keep
Valentines day is coming in another month! Okay, I probably shouldn't be writing this until after preference, but it was the only thing I could think of. So why is Valentines such a cool and sweet holiday for girls, but guys aren't as enthusiastic about it? Well, first off, advertisements about Valentine's are usually focused to be meant for girls. Boxes of chocolates, roses, Kay jewelers special sale for that "special someone", ya you get the idea. Usually girls don't go up to guys and give them a diamond watch with a dozen roses (maybe the chocolates, but probably not in a heart shaped box.) The gifts are meant for girls and the pleasure they get with it. Plus, it's always the guy who's giving the gifts anyway in the ads. In real life (well to me in high school at least) guys I know don't want to really go out and spend money on girls. To them, they think it's a waste of money, and they are only going to appreciate it on the "love day, cuz that's what they're supposed to do" (my friend said this by the way.) It would be much easier to write a note and, if they have the guts for it, go up and say, "hey you are a cool person, thanx for being my friend." Personally, I think that means a whole lot more than some flowers. Just hearing that you are appreciated is going to stick around in your memory forever, while a box of chocolates only gives you temporary pleasure. If Valentine's Day was more like that, both guys and girls would love it more.

new years!
YAY! here comes 2007!!! Why do people make such a big deal though of new year's resolutions? Today at a fireside the speaker was talking about how they look back at what they've accomplished and see what they need to improve on for the new year. For other people, maybe they didn't do as much as they wouldv'e wanted, or felt guilty about not accomplishing their last goals, and strive to do better. Me personally, I am usually happy with what I've done, and yes I want to accomplish something in the new year, but around February I just get lazy! Maybe that's why it's such a big deal at this time of year, it's an appropriate time to start a goal, but is everyone ready for the year commitment?

Christmas is here!
Presents, hot chocolate, helping my sisters believe in santa, festive music, it's almost here!! However these are just the extras to the true meaning of Christmas, Jesus' birth. Why do so many people lose sight of this, and turn to the "commerical christmas?" We have an ornament that is a lady with a million presents and shopping bags, and one is labeled, "the spirit of christmas stress." People are so caught up in parties, presents to family and friends, getting stuff on sale, that it seems that there isn't any "time" to sit and ponder about Christ's birth. It's the whole reason why we celebrate Christmas in the first place. You also hear about "get the perfect gift!" etc. on the tv, radio, newspaper, everywhere! Yet you rarely hear anyone talk about Christ unless it's Sunday. Even on this one radio station, they talk about Him, but it's "Santa" talking about Him, another commercial character in the festive holidays. The media around this time influences us to be caught up in the commercial fever, and separates us from the true meaning of Christmas.

The Greatest Snow on Earth
Utah and it's snow.......they just mix with each other. But why did it get the name of the greatest snow on earth? Well, since Utah is located in the Rockies, and is at very high altitude, the slopes has been a tourist attraction for skiing, snowboarding, sledding etc. Cities like Park City is famous because of where its located and the slopes that come along with it. I think that also because of the Winter Olympics. It brought in a bunch of people from all over the world, which meant even a bigger tourist attraction. Plus, where they located all of the places to put the events, like Park City, The Peaks Arena, etc. had people travel around Utah and actually see what's around here and all the snow we get. To some people who don't get snow, was probably thrilled at the idea of 2 ft all around them and being able to fool around in it. It creates huge feelings of excitement! That is why Utah has the greatest snow on earth.

Sweet!

Hot Pink Convertible Bugs are the coolest cars ever!! First of all, the color. It's really sophisticated, and I don't think hot pink is seen very much out on the road. It really makes a statement about the person driving it. Usually, it means that it's a girls car, and probably is a young adult. The actual convertible flip roof again makes another statement. Convertibles usually are expensive, and that's the first thought that comes to mind. Plus, it's a "2-season" car, when it's hot in the summer, going for a drive with the top off makes the statement of laid back and cool. Still, a hot pink bug convertible is sophisticated and is a freakin sweet car!!!

COUGARS FAN!!!!

This year's Holy War was probably the best game I've seen, not only because it was my favorite college team that won, but it was like the most important game of the season! Though I've always wondered, why is this game such a big deal? Ya, it's exciting, but why it the most important game? Okay, so the University of Utah and BYU are the biggest universities in the state, and are actually recognized in the nation as pretty good colleges. Since they are the biggest, and both are pretty close to each other, they are "rivals" Both claim to be the best and have better programs. Trying to accomplish the same thing means that you have huge competition. Not just in sports, but academics as well. Both universities have also been here for quite a while, which deepens the competition. Both have developed and are trying to be the best, so winning the holy war means being the best in football.
(this blog probably doesn't make any sense, but it does to me! Go BYU!)

sledding in snowing weather

Snow+cold+warm clothing=SLEDDING!! Why do so many people go sledding anyway? There are so many other activities, but why choose sledding over let's say...snowboarding? I guess one of the reasons would be that it's inexpensive. To go snowboarding or skiing at park city means paying to use their slopes and equipment if you don't have it, and also maybe buy a cup of hot cocoa. All in all, it's about $100 for about 5hrs of pleasure. But with sledding, usually you can borrow a neighbors if you don't have one, or buy them for $10 and keep it for life instead of an afternoon. There are also so many other places that you can sled, which is just as exciting, and probably there are quite a few in the neighborhood, since Orem is made of hills and slopes that you can't normally ski down. Also, if you have a family with little kids who can't quite ski yet, sledding is a different way to keep the kids happy and get them excited. Or even with a group date, its inexpensive, yet you still have a blast together making jumps or sled chains and such. So sledding can be fun for everyone, whether or not you can ski! Sometimes it may hurt biffing it all the time, but it's totally worth while!

Les Miserables
Being in the play was a blast!! Even though I didn't have a huge part at all, being part of the play has helped me become a better actor, has helped me focus more on every aspect, and I have become more socialble with those around me. When I first auditioned, I used my few skills that I pertained last year from Beauty and the Beast. As the play has progressed, I've learned how to become a character by analyzing what my character has done. This is so much easier to do, since this year I have three parts that are actual people, instead of being an inanimate object. Plus, analyzing characters helps me get into the right mood I have to act so that way I can portray my character correctly. I usually do this 5-10 minutes before I come on stage, so I can focus on the mood and movements I need to do. About a month ago, I learned some meditation in my health-science class that has helped me focus on my character. While I'm in a meditative state, I can focus on events that my character has been through, which also helps me on stage when I need to act it out. Plus, my friend Jessie has helped me think about what my character goes through so I can better act it out. I have also learned that I need to be more socialble and open with those around me, because they all help me get in the right mood I need to be in. Since the start, I've made many new friends, who all help me to do the best I can while on stage. Being able to be focused and open with those around me will help me in the future, not only in other plays that I might participate in, but also in other aspects of life. These qualities have truly helped me to become a better actress and person.

Spiderman is my hero!!!!

At least once every couple weeks my friends and I always have the same arguement, which superhero is the coolest ever. Spiderman, Batman, and Superman are all super cool, but Spiderman is the best and beats all! Why? Well, if you think about it, Spiderman is younger than both Batman and Superman. In the movie Batman, he's like 30 something years old cuz he goes off to jail and martial arts school and stuff like that. In the Superman movies, he's like in his 20's and then goes off to find his planet and doesn't show up until five years later. But Spiderman is just outta high school! Since he's younger, he can relate more to me because he's still pretty much a teen. He goes through like, friends and family problems, worries about school stuff, getting money for college, and what will he do when he's done with school. These problems I think about all the time, and I'm not even saving the world like him! Holy cow, he has to worry about his personal life and about everyone else that he would be saving that day as well! I don't think I'd be able to cope with all that! So having someone that is closer to my age and goes through stuff me and a bunch of other people go through is qutie comforting. That is truly being a hero, being able to get through challenges that face him everyday.
