Why is the foxtrot so Dull?

So, I really like dancing, and I found out that I'm pretty good at it too. But the foxtrot, I don't know why, but I always seem to have to try my hardest to stay awake for those! I'm always scared that I'll fall asleep standing up. Anyway.....
First of all, all of the songs (or all that I've heard) are like from total oldies!! Who seriously listens to 30's and 40's music in their free time? (Besides all of the old people of course.) I think that most people like to listen to the music they grew up with, maybe it brings back memories or something. But since there isn't a whole lot of people who were old enough to remember, why play it? It totally clashes with all of the other like rock music that everybody dances too, and the lyrics and music just isn't that great. It is just way old according to what people are playing now.
In other dances, like the swing and lindihop (my two personal favorites), there are so many cool steps and combinations that you can do. Flips, tricky foot stuff, twirly things, and lifts and stuff too. But foxtrot? I don't think I've ever seen someone do a lift or anything like that. Plus, most of the steps come from simple basic steps. There's not a whole lot of variety. And if that isn't all, you go in a circle the entire time! and the beat is always slow, slow, quick quick. And your footing is always that too! Where's the cool variety?
